Skin Care Routine Order for Morning
Presuming you went through your usual skincare routine the night before, chances are, you’ll wake up with your skin in pretty good shape. For that reason, you can keep your routine pretty simple. Here’s a good, easy-to-follow morning skincare routine.
Get Up and Have a Coffee
OK, it’s fine if you want to do this first. You can even check out Instagram for a few minutes if you want to (as long as you focus on accounts that make you feel great about yourself!).
Cleanse
Once you feel like you’re ready to face the day, give yourself a gentle, but thorough cleanse with our So Clean! facial cleanser. This is the basis of your skincare routine and it will purify, cleanse, and soothe the skin without drying it out. All you need is a pump or two and your skin will look polished and renewed–and it’s lovely, light citrus scent will awaken your senses!
Tone Your Skin
If you’re not really awake yet, a few spritzes of this will remedy that immediately. Our gentle Rose and Shine rose water toner will help hydrate your skin (and refresh your spirit!). You can even give yourself a few extra spritzes during the day to restore hydration. This is especially refreshing during the summer when you might be spending more time outside and perspiring more. In fact, you can keep it in the fridge and treat yourself to a few refreshing blasts throughout the day.
Apply Serum
If you really want your skin to glow, apply just a few drops of Nectar of the C vitamin C serum. It helps brighten dark spots and works to reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles.
Moisturize
One of the best ways to get your skin ready for the day is with moisturizer. Our Crème de la Cream will get to work on wrinkles and will smooth it out to get it ready for make-up!
Apply Eye Cream
If you wear eye make-up, there is no better way to get it ready than our Eyes Eyes Baby eye cream. In addition to firming the skin, it moisturizes it so make-up is much more even.
Apply Sunscreen
Using sunscreen on a daily basis is an ultra-important part of any morning skin care routine. So much damage to the skin is caused by the sun, including dark spots and fine lines and wrinkles- which completely undos the work you just spent caring for your skin! So remember to ALWAYS APPLY SUNSCREEN, no matter what the weather.
Skin Care Routine Order for Night
As you’ll see, your night skincare routine order might be much the same with just a few tweaks and adjustments. Remember that your body is actively repairing and healing itself while you sleep, so it’s important to set yourself up for success before you hit the hay. Here’s an easy guide to a nighttime skincare routine.
Cleanse Your Skin – Deeply This Time
You’ve been wearing makeup and sunscreen all day, you took that virtual barre class at lunchtime, you’ve had your hands on your face all day while staring at the computer. Let’s face it–your skin is dirrrrrty! Give it a really, really thorough cleaning–in fact, why not wash, rinse, and repeat–to get all the gunk off before you go to bed!
Detox
If you really, really want to make sure you get all the impurities that have ravaged your skin all day, apply a really great detox mask like our Prince Charcoal. Our “spa in a jar” will really draw out that below the surface dirt and oil your skin has been absorbing all day and will get your skin ready to absorb something better- such as your serums and moisturizer! Our detox mask can be used 1-3 times a week.
Tone
Did we even discuss how dry the air was today or how much the heat or A/C at work dried out our skin? A few spritzes of toner will help restore the hydration your skin needs.
Apply Serum
You just remembered–the meeting with that big client is early tomorrow–let’s get started on hydrating that skin tonight with a few drops of Just Dew It. Don’t forget to treat your neck, too!
Moisturize Your Skin
Just like serum, slather on a moisturizer on your face and neck and let your skin drink up the goodness. Our rich H2 Oh Yeah hydrating moisturizer will give your skin a deep level of hydration & work wonders while you sleep.
Apply Eye Cream
Anyone over the age of 20 needs to be using eye cream on a regular basis, and nighttime is the perfect time to apply it. Like your moisturizer, you can dab on a little extra, and wake up feeling nice and hydrated.
Skincare Routine Pro-Tips
Those are the basics when it comes to your skincare routine order for morning and night–here are a few random pro-tips that will help you remember and stick to those routines!
- Figuring out your morning vs. night skincare routine is really just a matter of adjusting, not revamping your skincare routine. With a few little changes and possibly increasing the amount of something you might use (like a little more moisturizer at night), it’s basically a fairly similar routine.
- Do not skip your nighttime routine! Life happens during the day which means that’s when your skin is exposed to environmental stressors, dirt, oil, masks (at least hopefully, just for a little while longer), your own hands, the sun, wind, and all kinds of other forces that can damage your skin. It’s also when you’re presumably wearing the most makeup (unless you’ve ignored our constant advice to take your makeup off before going to bed!) which, in and of itself, can really clog up your skin. That’s why it’s so crucial not to skip your nighttime routine, no matter how tired you are. A good way to avoid the “I’m too tired to take off my makeup!” blues is to do it as soon as you are home for the evening–not just minutes before you go to sleep. If necessary, you can always cleanse, tone, and apply serum earlier and then apply your moisturizer and eye cream later.
- It’s OK to do your skincare routine in stages. Although it’s probably easier to do it all at once, if you feel you need a little extra of something or just feel as if your skin needs something right now (like moisturizer in the middle of the day), that is absolutely fine. The main thing is to make sure you’re eventually getting all the steps in.
- Part of what sometimes makes sticking to a skincare routine difficult, is that our mornings and evenings are when we’re often the most rushed and the most tired, leaving us little energy or motivation to go through our usual skincare routine. A great way to make sure you don’t use that as an excuse not to go through your skincare routine is to keep your products out and easily accessible and if possible, in the order in which you need to use them. Just remember to keep your natural skin care products out of direct sunlight & heat!
Hopefully that clears up the differences between your day and night skincare routines. As you can see, it takes very slight changes to switch from one to the other!
