Serums are one of the best ways we know to combat skin problems. Known for their ability to target certain issues, like dryness, dark spots, or dullness, they’re formulated to do just one job and do it well. That’s why they’re so effective when it comes to their ability to infuse the skin with moisture. To help you find the hydrating serum that’s best for you, we’ve selected our 11 favorite hydrating serums (10 just wasn’t enough!)! No matter what skin type you have, we think you’ll find one that’s perfect for your skin!
1. Best Drugstore Brand Hydrating Serum - Dead Sea Collection
Dead Sea: Collagen Anti Wrinkle Facial Serum
At under $10, not only is this hydrating serum crazy cheap, it’s insanely effective, infusing skin with a level of moisture you can literally see on your face. It’s also an especially great choice for anyone looking to get that dewy look. This paraben-free serum uses collagen to give skin that plump, healthy appearance and wow, is it effective! One recommendation: make sure to shake the bottle before using as it tends to get a little thick over time.
2. Best Anti-Aging Hydrating Serum
La Roche-Posay: Hyalu B5 Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum
This always dependable, mid-priced brand makes a great hydrating serum that’s full of hyaluronic acid which, if you’re not familiar with it, does a great job of hydrating the skin by capturing moisture and locking it in. As an anti-aging serum, it gets to work on those fine lines and wrinkles and helps restore the plumpness we lose as we get older. We also love that it’s paraben free!
3. Best Nighttime Hydrating Serum
The Body Shop: Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil
If you like to treat yourself to a little extra hydration at night, The Body Shop’s vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil is a great choice. Packed with hydrating vitamin E, this serum is a “mega hydrator,” infusing the skin with moisture without making it feel greasy. (And if you’re not familiar with vitamin E, it’s fabulous for adding moisture to the skin!) We also love that this iconic brand uses Community Fair Trade sesame seed oil as one of its moisturizing ingredients.
4. Best Hydrating Serum for Sensitive Skin
Although it’s probably more popular in Europe than in the U.S., this dermatologist-tested brand is paraben-free and allergy tested, making it a great choice for those with sensitive skin. It includes one of our favorites--hyaluronic acid to add moisture to the skin and Vichy volcanic water to strengthen and repair skin’s natural barrier. And if you’re looking for an anti-aging hydrating serum, this is a great one!
5. Best Splurge Hydrating Serum
Yes, we realize you could buy a week’s worth of groceries for one bottle but when something works it works! Well-known for giving skin that plump look, this hydrating serum is also very, very lightweight so if you don’t like the feel of a heavy serum, this is a great choice. It provides up to 24 hours of hydration so if you have to skip either your morning or evening skin care routine, you’ll be just fine!
6. Best Natural Hydrating Serum
Tata Harper: Rejuvenating Serum
Although it’s certainly not cheap, Tata Harper can always be counted on for great, natural products that not only work effectively, but smell fabulous. Their fantastic, 100% natural anti-aging serum uses ingredients like mango, jojoba oil, sandalwood, chamomile, jasmine and even a little patchouli. It really gets to work on signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles and lack of elasticity.
7. Best Hydrating Eye Serum
Yes, there is such a thing as an eye serum and this one is one of our favorites! As we all know, the skin around the eye area is one of the most delicate parts of the face in large part because it doesn’t produce much oil. Add to that the fact that fine lines and wrinkles usually show up there before any place else, and you can see why it’s so important to really take care of that area in particular. Luckily, this serum from Tatcha does just that, using caffeine to firm and reduce the look of puffiness. It also uses “fine dust of 23-karat gold” to brighten the skin and diminish dark circles under the eyes, and Okinawa Red Algae to infuse the eye area with moisture.
8. Best Hydrating Serum for Super Dry Skin
Drunk Elephant: B-Hydra™ Intensive Hydration Serum
Sometimes we just need a ridiculous amount of hydration, especially when the weather gets either really, really hot or really, really cold. When that happens, Drunk Elephant’s B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum is a great choice. Not only does it help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, it visibly improves the texture and tone of skin while infusing it with hydration using Provitamin B5 and Sodium Hyaluronate.
9. Best Vegan Hydrating Serum
Pai Skincare: Back to Life Hydration Serum
This serum is one of our favorites not only because it’s vegan but because it fits so many other categories! For example, it could also be our favorite hydrating serum for sensitive skin because it’s formulated for sensitive and eczema-prone skin. But it’s also incredibly hydrating so it could also be chosen as one of our favorite hydrating serums for super dry skin. It’s also full of antioxidants to help protect skin from environmental stressors that cause skin so much damage. We love that it uses what it calls a “Tri-Berry” combination of “Pepperberry and Riberry and naturally waxy Muntries.” Consider us berry, berry crazy for this hydrating serum!
10. Best Hydrating Serum to Combat Redness
Kiehl's: Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream
Do you suffer from redness in your skin? Then this may be the perfect hydrating serum! This serum infused “water cream” is full of calendula petals which contain five discomfort-reducing compounds, making it a great choice for anyone with irritated skin or skin that’s prone to redness. It also helps even out uneven skin while providing moisture for up to 24 hours. Although it’s especially great for sensitive skins, it’s formulated so any skin type can use it.
11. Best Hydrating Serum for Oily Skin
Neutrogena: Hydro Boost Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum
Believe it or not, even oily skins need to replenish moisture which is tricky because products with a lot of oil, as many moisturizing products have, can really clog up pores. Not so for this one! Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum is oil-free and noncomedogenic, meaning it won’t clog pores, making it a great choice for oily skins. That said, it contains hyaluronic acid to capture and lock moisture into the skin. And who doesn’t love the under $20 price tag?
So those are our picks for the best hydrating serums on the market! We think no matter what your skin type or skin issue, you’ll find something here that helps replenish moisture to your skin!
